Choosing Inground Swimming Pools

An inground swimming pool is a major investment, but it can provide many hours of family fun and fitness. There are a variety of pools available, from basic models that require little maintenance to luxurious designs that offer a resort-like experience. Choosing the right pool type and size is an important decision that considers lifestyle, landscape, and budget.

Some homeowners think that an inground pool must be large enough to host a water volleyball game or a full-out swim workout. Others envision a quiet nook where they can cool off after a long day or soak up the sun with an iced drink in hand. While there are plenty of options for each taste and budget, some common pool design features help buyers make the most of their investment.

Pool builders and contractors specialize in creating custom pools that meet the needs of each homeowner. It’s important for potential pool owners to consult with one or more licensed contractors to understand what options are available. A contractor can also help determine the best type of pool for your property, taking into account its size and location.

The type of inground pool you choose will affect how much it costs to build, how long it takes to install, and the amount of monthly electrical costs you can expect. Vinyl liner and fiberglass are two popular pool types. A basic vinyl pool can cost about $90,000 to install, but the price can climb quickly if you add customizations and add-ons. A basic fiberglass pool will generally start at about $100,000.

When you’re ready to learn more about your pool installation options, contact a professional licensed pool installer near you to schedule a site visit. They’ll be able to walk you through the process and provide a quote based on your unique project needs.

A 20’ by 40’ inground pool is the largest size of fiberglass or vinyl liner pool that can be built or installed, but there are many more sizes to choose from. While there are some benefits to purchasing a bigger pool, it’s also important to weigh the pros and cons of the size you’re interested in.

While some people may talk about their own backyard pool experiences, it’s best to leave the pool buying and building process to a licensed contractor who can answer your questions, provide accurate quotes, and help you avoid costly mistakes.

Fiberglass pools are made from a strong fiberglass resin that’s applied to a durable concrete surface. The pool shell is then coated with a plaster finish that acts as an additional layer of protection and enhances the beauty of the finished product. Pool plaster comes in a variety of colors, textures, and finishes to suit any backyard aesthetic. Some manufacturers, such as Thursday Pools, offer a limited warranty on their fiberglass pools. This includes a 15-year surface warranty against osmotic blistering and a one-time transferable 35-year structural warranty. These warranties can help ensure your pool is protected and maintains a high level of quality for a lifetime of enjoyment.

Questions to Ask Before Starting Swimming Pool Renovations

Pool renovations offer homeowners the chance to transform their outdoor space and boost property value. Depending on the scope of the project, it can range from changing out outdated equipment to a complete redesign and add-ons like water slides or diving boards. However, there are several questions that should be asked before starting a swimming pool remodel. These can help ensure that the project is a success and does not turn into an expensive disaster.

Some pools are beyond repair due to structural damage or outdated materials. A complete remodeling may be required to restore the integrity of the structure and prevent leaks. In this type of swimming pool renovation, it is a good idea to hire a qualified professional who can identify what repairs are necessary. A renovation may also include repairing or replacing the decking, adding an energy-efficient pump and filter, or upgrading the lighting systems.

Aesthetic upgrades are one of the most popular types of swimming pool renovations. These improvements can be as simple as putting in new decorative interior finishes, such as NPT’s popular StoneScapes, QuartzScapes or PolishedScapes, which are durable and beautiful finishes that last for years. Alternatively, adding a new pool liner or changing the existing tile color can create a dramatic change in the appearance of the entire pool.

Other aesthetic upgrades include installing water features, such as waterfalls or fountains that provide a tranquil and serene ambiance. Decking and landscaping can be upgraded as well, to improve the overall pool design and to create a cohesive backyard environment.

Another common reason for swimming pool renovation is to add a spa area, where people can relax and unwind. This can be done by adding a spa or hot tub to the existing pool or building a separate structure that is completely enclosed and separated from the main pool by walls or a fence.

It is important to communicate your vision and make sure the pool professionals are aware of what you want from the renovation. It is also a good idea to ask them about their experience in handling similar projects and what they would recommend for your specific situation. This helps ensure that everyone is on the same page from the start and can avoid any surprises or unexpected costs down the road.

Lastly, it is also a good idea to obtain multiple quotes from reliable contractors before beginning any work on your renovation. This will give you a clearer picture of market rates and help ensure competitive pricing. Additionally, it will help you set a realistic budget for the project, ensuring that you have enough money to bring your vision to reality without any unwelcome financial surprises.

Whether you are looking to restore the structural integrity of your existing pool or make a simple aesthetic upgrade, there is no better time than now to renovate your swimming pool. With a little bit of planning, you can achieve the pool of your dreams and create life-long memories in your own backyard oasis.

How Builders Build Concrete Pools

Concrete pools offer a wide variety of design options. They’re the most customizable of all pool types, but that also means they tend to cost more than vinyl liner or fiberglass. If you’re set on getting a concrete pool, you’ll want to talk to builders to get prices and timelines, as well as check out some reviews. Regardless of the pool shape or size, builders can add features like tanning ledges, in-pool seating, and grottoes and waterfalls. They can even make the pool look prettier by adding colorful tile, plaster, and coping.

Before pouring your pool, the contractor will frame it using a grid of steel bars called rebar. This helps to safeguard the structure from damage during construction and will help to give the concrete tensile strength. It will also provide plumbing channels for the water lines. The contractor will place the rebar three inches above the soil, then lay plywood boards on top of it to protect the shell from being damaged.

They’ll then use a large carpenter’s level to ensure the bottom of the pool is flat and even. They’ll also build a gradual slope for the floor of the pool. If there is a hill or other obstacle on one side of the pool, the builders will build up the soil in that area to level it off.

The next step is to waterproof the pool shell. Builders do this by spraying or rolling on a waterproof coating. This will protect the surface of your concrete pool from rain, sleet, and snow, as well as sun and heat. They may also coat the interior of your concrete pool with plaster. This coating isn’t as durable as the shell itself, and it will need to be resurfaced every five to nine years.

Once the water has been tested and the rebar is inspected, the builders will prepare to pour the concrete for your pool. They’ll create a form for the shape of your pool, and then they’ll spray in a thick mixture of cement, known as shot concrete or gunite. They may mix the concrete in a tank, or they may shoot it out of a hose. The concrete is then left to cure, usually for a week or more.

Once the concrete has cured, the builders will finish up with tile and coping. Coping is the rim around the edge of your concrete pool, and it can be made of flat rock pieces known as flagstone, precast stone or bricks, or poured in place concrete. Tile is a good choice, as it resists chlorine and other chemicals better than other finishes. The last step is to apply the coping and plaster, which will take a day or so. It’s important to leave a 6 in (15 cm) gap at the waterline, as this will be where you enter and exit the pool. It’s a good idea to hire a professional to take care of this step, as it can be dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Inground Swimming Pools – Everything You Need to Know

Inground swimming pools offer a unique opportunity for homeowners to create a true backyard oasis. They offer a place to swim, relax, and entertain with family and friends. In addition, they provide fitness benefits and increase property value. However, when shopping for an inground pool, it’s important to understand installation processes, maintenance requirements, and design options to ensure that the pool you choose is a great fit for your home and lifestyle.

There are three main types of inground pools: fiberglass, vinyl liner, and gunite. Each type has its own set of advantages, but it’s essential to know how each differs from the other before making your final decision. In the following article, we will explore everything you need to know about inground pools.

Vinyl Liner Pools

Typically constructed from a heavy vinyl liner that’s placed inside an excavated hole, vinyl pools are the most popular and affordable option for those seeking a classic inground pool. These pools have a wide range of sizes and shapes to fit any yard. They also come with a variety of accessories and safety features, making them a good choice for families who want to get the most use out of their pool.

Gunite Pools

The most durable and high-end of the three pool types, gunite pools are crafted from a mixture of concrete and other materials and are designed to last a lifetime. They have the largest size and shape possibilities of any of the three pool types, making them a perfect choice for anyone seeking a spacious and luxurious pool to enjoy with family and friends. Gunite pools are also the most expensive of the three, but their long-term cost savings and durability make them a wise investment for those looking to get the most out of their pool.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass manufacturers have expanded their designs considerably since the first pools hit the market, ensuring that almost any homeowner can find a fiberglass pool to suit their style and budget. This makes them a good choice for homeowners who might have thought that they were limited in their pool choices due to the fact that they can’t build a custom pool. In the mid to large-sized category, fiberglass offers an incredible number of shapes and features that give it a completely custom feel – without the weeks of construction work and huge price tag.

Even with limited space, you can still make a splash and create your own backyard paradise with the right small inground pool design. Cocktail and plunge pools, for example, are two ultra-compact options that have been gaining popularity for their ability to maximize functionality in limited yards. These pools are built to accommodate a variety of recreational and exercise equipment, including water slides and diving boards. They’re also the ideal choice for homeowners who need to swim laps or otherwise engage in intense aquatic workouts. To discover the best small pool for your specific needs, schedule a consultation with an independent pool builder today.

How to Go About Swimming Pool Renovations

Swimming pool renovations offer a great opportunity for homeowners to upgrade their backyard entertainment spaces, while increasing the value of their property. These projects can involve anything from repairing structural issues to adding bonus luxuries like water features and lighting. However, renovating or remodeling a swimming pool is a complex task that requires the expertise of a professional. Attempting to renovate or remodel a swimming pool without the assistance of a professional can end up costing more in the long run.

The first step in the process of swimming pool renovations is determining what you want your finished product to look like. This will help you set a budget that you can stick with throughout the project. It is also important to keep in mind that your family will likely use the pool during the renovations, so it is a good idea to get their input on design choices. It is also helpful to consider how much time your family spends in the pool and whether there are any specific amenities that would make it more enjoyable for them.

Once you have a clear vision for your pool renovations, the next step is obtaining quotes from various contractors. This will give you a better understanding of the average costs associated with your renovations and allow you to compare prices. It is also important to be aware of any potential hidden costs that may arise during the renovations, such as repairs to plumbing or electrical systems. These costs can add up quickly and significantly increase the overall cost of your project.

One of the most common types of swimming pool renovations is resurfacing. Resurfacing a pool involves replacing the existing surface with a new material. There are several different materials to choose from, including concrete, vinyl liner, and fiberglass. It is best to work with a professional that can provide detailed information about each option and guide you in selecting the right materials for your needs.

The procedure for resurfacing a pool is complicated and requires the use of special tools and equipment. It is usually necessary to remove the old surface, prepare the area for the new surface, and then pour the appropriate amount of concrete. Depending on the size of the pool and the type of finish you choose, it can take up to a week for the concrete to fully cure.

Another popular type of swimming pool renovation is the addition of a waterfall or other feature. These can be quite expensive, but they can greatly enhance the aesthetic of a pool and create an impressive focal point in your yard. Additionally, swimming pool features can make it easier to entertain guests and children while staying cool.

Finally, a renovation can include the upgrading of older pool components, such as filtration systems and water pumps. This can reduce energy consumption and help to save on utility bills. It is also possible to add solar heating, which can further decrease the amount of money spent on energy bills while still providing a comfortable temperature for swimming.

How to Select and Maintain Concrete Pools

Concrete pools are a long-term investment in your home’s value and a beautiful addition to your yard. They also offer more customization opportunities than fiberglass or vinyl-liner pools. In fact, many homeowners report that their concrete pool increased the resale value of their property.

Concrete is an extremely durable material that can withstand challenging weather conditions. In contrast, fiberglass and vinyl liners can become weak or damaged over time. Concrete pools are constructed on-site with a rebar framework sprayed with gunite or shotcrete, creating a strong and solid shell that can withstand the test of time. Additionally, concrete is not easily scratched or punctured. This means you can let your kids swim and dogs play without worrying about them damaging the structure of the pool.

Another benefit of concrete is its natural insulation properties. This helps reduce your energy costs by reducing the amount of heat lost in the water. It also means you can use your pool more during the winter when it would otherwise be too cold for swimming.

While fiberglass and concrete pools are both beautiful options for your backyard, it is important to consider what features you are looking for before deciding on the type of pool you want to invest in. For example, if you plan to spend most of your time swimming and relaxing by the pool, it is important to have a deck or gazebo built next to the pool. This will allow you to enjoy the views of your landscape while you relax in the cool waters of your pool.

Additionally, if you are interested in getting exercise or doing physical therapy in your pool, it is important to have the necessary equipment to make that possible. A pool builder can help you with this process by determining how much space you have and working with your budget to get the best equipment for your needs.

When selecting a concrete pool, you should work with your builder to create a design that complements your home and outdoor living space. This includes the shape, size, and depth of your pool. In addition, you can add features to the interior of your pool that will give it more personality and appeal.

One of the most important things you can do to maintain the beauty and integrity of your concrete pool is to keep up with its maintenance routines. This will include regular inspections and addressing any minor issues as they arise. This will prevent them from escalating into major problems that can be costly to repair.

Regular maintenance also involves cleaning the filtration system on your pool. You should clean your filter regularly and replace the sand in your pump every 2-3 years to ensure proper operation of your pool. In addition, you should check the pH of your water at least once a week and add sand or chemicals as needed to balance the water.
